Lighty night.
:-)

?...turns into... :-)

The title is a mystery. And so is this blog. And my life. But, to put it more simply, everything is now just one big WHY that's been building up for many years. Ever since seventh grade, as a matter of fact.

Now, I don't want to go all "middle school drama"-y here, but I can't help it. Lately all I seem to be able to do is complain and sit there pointing out the problems of the world without actually doing anything to help.

And it's starting to get annoying.

WHY am I so bad in social situations?
WHY are the people who are deemed "uncool" by the rest of society always my friends (not that this is a bad thing, really: they're cool!)?
WHY do I complain so much?
WHY do I have to fight my nature to be mean and impulsive rather than calm and respectful?

"No man is an island," John Donne says. Then why am I so isolated? Why do I unconsciously attract things that make me an "island"?

Do I want to be an island?
Sometimes, but not all the time.
Do I want to be separated from the mainland?
Sometimes, but not all the time.
Do I want to just sit back and watch while other people are putting themselves out there and I sit here and curse my laziness?
No, not really.
Even though that's what happens most of the time.

So, you're wondering (if there even are any readers of this isolated section of the blogosphere): if I say that I don't like complaining and criticizing, then WHY am I sitting here writing a post that is, essentially, one big complaint? I'll tell you why. It's because that's what human nature is. We are all sinners. No one is "basically good". Why do you think that little kids have to be taught to share instead of just naturally sharing their toys? Why do you think that parents have to teach their children to be polite in public?

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to be hypocritical and start complaining again. SO, from now on, I'm going to make a pact with myself to try and only say things that will not be complainy even if I feel the desire to do so after reading something that gets me all twisted up because things are not going how I want them to be! Because, ultimately, I am not in control of my life. God is.

And I am not afraid to say that the Lord is my God. Even if you will call me names and ridicule me.

Water off a duck's back.

Last day

before finals. The last normal day of 1st semester before three days of finals.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

(or so says the lakte who couldn't stop screaming)

Clovis united most of the Frankish tribes and conquered most of Gaul! He and his descendants were called the Merovingians! Charlemagne was a Carolingian king!

Hola! Como estas? No me gusta los examenes finales. Hace mucho frio y mucho viento hoy. Estรก nevando.

I have no idea how this font appeared. I just copy pasted the a w/an accent from a Google result and this happened.

D, E, F sharp, (half step to) G, A, B, C sharp, (half step to) D. Music geeks will understand this.

There! I've now reviewed for my finals tomorrow. Sort of. Ish.

While I'm on the subject of finals, I'll say that I really do think that they are like flu shots. No one likes them, but everyone has to take them (or get one).

And, on another totally random note, some people do have the talent of making their lives sound interesting. Unlike me.

"Flux rox," Scott said, conclusively.

New url! Yes, I'm just that fickle. But this time it's RELEVANT: jinnyd.blogspot.com OH.

Guess the book the title's from and get a virtual hot air balloon equipped for blogging in the blogosphere and living in for over three months! Guess the book reference and webcomic reference I just made with the offer of the blog balloon! Are these exclamation points bugging you! Good! Bad! Ugly! Eggs sunny side up! Blue hair! Sebald Code!

Now, on to the "real post" ( -gasp- the REAL WORLD? noooo!! Wonderland, come back!). Or maybe not. I'm still a little weird after gym class today and a math test that I toe-dally passed. I think. I hope. Please? What was I gonna say? Oh yeah...)

When I first made a blog it was when I was in my "omg i'm totes gonna be an author sumday" mode. Seriously. I was looking up all this stuff about query letters and literary agents and publishing scams and self-publishing and reading Andrew Clements's The School Story over and over and wishing that I had a first-gen iMac (you know--those cool colored and futuristicly shaped ones! ahhhhh---beautiful).

So, all of my early blog posts were about writing-related things (sort of ) like how far I was in my "book" (which I never finished, by da way), and how I was going to kill the writer's block monster, and all of that wonderful sunshine-and-rainbows stuff.

Now, I'm blogging about random things like... hmm... random....things. As evidenced by my previous posts.

I'm beginning to see a pattern in my mind (where I come up with the coolest blog posts ever and then promptly forget about them in a few minutes): I'm constantly thinking about blogging about books, reading books, music, food, movies, and other semi-random things that really just encompass my interests.

Now, in case you didn't know, there are two kinds of randomness:

1: the totally random "follow the butterflies" kind. You know, where things that have absolutely NOTHING, and I mean N-O-T-H-I-N-G to do with each other pop up together anyway. Kind of like brown bees and cheddar cheese (ha! rhymes!). Green eggs and Ham. Which one of these does not belong in Wonderland? Tea mad parties. Angry hat makers, Crazy hat makers, Johnny Depp, sea monkeys, orange cheddar trees, white paper rose trees, consume me signs, style rookie free advertising Alexander McQueen S/S 10 omg those shoes are wicked lovely.

2: The other kind of randomness is when you are random about a specific number of things. Okay, so that's sort of opposite of what random is, but it's sort of like this: Let's say that you have yellow, green, purple, red, and black pieces of paper in a bag. The order of colors that you draw out will be in a random order, but you will always draw out either a yellow, green, purple, red, or black piece of paper. You wouldn't, say, draw out a white piece of paper from this bag if it only holds yellow, green, purple, red, and black. Do you sort of get it?

Well, that was a failed attempt to mess with the "Edit Html" button to get columns. Yay.

As I was saying, this blog may very much be about books, music (classical, mostly-ish), movies (LOVE MOVIES), writing (maybe. during school breaks), and quite possibly food.

And maybe some rants thrown in for taste. :-)

Tiiiiiime is [not] on my side, yes it is

I just need more TIME. I think everyone does. Because there are so many things that we want to do, but just don't have the TIME to do. For me, this would be reading nearly all of the books in B&N's "Children's" section. And a few select ones from the "Teen" section.

But instead, I have to study, practice piano (grr i dislike piano competitions grrr), violin (haha stereotypical AZN instrument), and do homework. Blleeehhhh. Oh, and procrastinate. And now that finals and a piano competition is coming up, I will have even LESS TIME than before. And plus high school just plain gives you more homework.

So, instead of reading the books that I want to read, I'll make a list of them instead! That's a lot less TIME-consuming, ain't it? Now, listed in no particular order, are...

NEW BOOKS THAT I WANT TO READ
The Inside Story, by Michael Buckley (coming out soon!)
Theodosia and the Eyes of Horus, R. L. LaFevers (April 12, 2010)
Lord Sunday, Garth Nix (March 16, 2010)
Sammy Keyes and the Wedding Crasher(WOOT!!!), Wendelin Van Draanen (in a few months--hopefully?)
Fang, James Patterson (i have no idea)

BOOKS/SERIES THAT I WANT/NEED TO FINISH READING
The Jacky Faber series, by L. A. Meyer
The Secret Series, by Psuedonymous Bosch
The Left Behind Series, Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins
The Alex Rider series, by Anthony Horowitz (Crocodile Tears!)
Graceling, by Kristen Cashore (& the sequel: Fire)
Diary of Teenage Girl: Kim, by Melody Carson

OTHER BOOKS
The Girl in Hyacinth Blue, Susan Vreeland
Star Climber, Kenneth Oppel
Lang Lang: Journey of a Thousand Miles, Lang Lang w/ David Ritz (yeah! I'm a piano geek!)

And there you have it. So many books, so little time, so true.

My Last Entry as a...

...person with a life. Finals are in two weeks, and a piano competition, and something else that is very important that I should probably try to remember now but can't, and all my time is going to be sucked up into studying, practicing, and trying not to go mad from all of the stress. Also, blog posts (if there will be any within the next few weeks) will consist of random facts of information that I will probably need to know for finals. Such as the fact that Rene Descartes said the very confusing "I think, therefore I am" quote (anyone else reminded of the Matrix...?).

Oh! And class registration for next fall! When they might make us choose between a foreign language or music...grrrr. Without music in my exceptionally boring school day, I shall promptly keel over and shrivel up into a novella about my short life.

So, to end this on an "I-do-have-a-life-even-though-I'm-Asian-and-therefore-study-a-lot" note, I'll talk about something cultural. Like music. And knitting. And books (and an obsession with them, actually).

Double-so, I shall now say something about books. "Childrens' books", to be more exact. Because even though I am far past the age of reading the books that Barnes & Noble classifies as "Kids", I still read them. Because they are much better than the Twilight-wannabe books in the "Teen" section (and for the record I read Twilight BEFORE everyone became obsessed with it!). The books in the "childrens' section" are just that much better. Plus they are actually centered around adventures instead of romance stories (which make up the other 49.99% of the "Teen" section).

Triple-so, that is why I still am reading books aimed at kids (10-12 years, approx.) and probably still will be long after I become an adult. Plus the kids books don't have swearing, drinking, or any other nasty stuff.

I'm afraid that this might turn into a book blog later, when all of the books come out in the spring.....
